Today marks 34 years since the historic peaceful demonstration by 21 monks of Drepung monastery on 27th September 1987 and 30 years since the inception of Gu Chu Sum Movement Association of Tibet’s work for fundamental rights of Tibetans through research, advocacy, and service of Tibetan political prisoners of conscience. We commemorate their sacrifices and courage. The demonstrations on this day were a critical moment for the Tibetan freedom movement. It reignited a new wave of Tibetan activists throughout Tibet, and created a ripple effect of Tibetan freedom movement internationally.
