We are saddened by the demise of Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la, a former Political Prisoner and a senior member of Gu-Chu-Sum Movement Association of Tibet.
Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la was born to Lobsang Soepa (Father) and Chungdak (mother) in Tsarheng County in 1949. Her father was a County leader under the Tibetan government and a respected family. On the day of Lhabhab Duchen in 1959, her father was arrested by Chinese forces along with many other Tibetans. For over two decades, Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la and her family suffered under Chinese oppression and atrocities after the forced annexation of Tibet by PLA troops, eventually blinding her father.
Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la continued her struggle for the cause of Tibet even after she reached exile at the beginning of the year 1980. She took part in different movements and activities for the cause of Tibet and was also very instrumental during the founding years of the organization. She passed away on 6th March 2021 at her residence in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamshala. As a senior member of the organization and benefactor of the senior member’s stipend program, the executive board members and staff of the organization have always tried to assist late Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la in various capacities. The executive board members visited her home on the day of her demise and later butter lamps and ritual prayers were offered in the honor of Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Kanying Lobsang Dekyi la. May you be reborn a Tibetan in the Land of Snow and roar in the face of tyranny and injustice again.
