Four Tibetans were trialed and adjudicated for 5 to 20 years according to a report by Human Rights Watch based in New York, USA.
The four Tibetans were trialed without a fair trial process on the accusation of disrupting national security and social harmony. Tibetans lay or monks alike are often denied of the fair trial process and trialed quickly and heavily.
According to the report, Gyalnor Dranag village located in the Dingri County, TAR, and Tengdro monastery were heavily raided by the local police on the night of 9th September 2019 which resulted in the arrest of 20 Tibetans. Shigatse Intermediate People’s Court trialed and sentenced Choegyal Wangpo for 20 years, Lobsang Jinpa for 19 years, Norbu Dhondup for 15 years, and Ngawang Yeshi for 5 years in prison. They are currently at Nyari Prison in Shigatse town.
According to the report, the monks of Tengdro Monastery trialed were accused of funding the construction of a new monastery in Nepal and also donating to the welfare of Tibetans in Nepal during the Nepal earthquake 2015. Choegyal Wangpo, a monk arrested among the trial left his cell phone at a tea house when he visited Lhasa in 2019. The tea house owner then reported the lost cellphone to the police which resulted in an investigation of his cell phone. The police found out that he has contacted Tibetans Nepal who is from Dingri County. Upon discovery of photos and videos of the teachings of the Dalai Lama, he was immediately arrested. The local Chinese government immediately formed a task force of police and immediately raided Tengdro Monastery and Dranak village and resulting in the arrest of 20 Tibetans.
