Day of the Imprisoned Writer poetry night

‘Day of the Imprisoned Writer’ commemorated with a poetry night. On the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the Day of the Imprisoned Writer, the organisation held a poetry night on 15th November 2020.

The annual poetry night held for the fifth time since 2016 is to support and express solidarity with the writers, particularly Tibetan writers imprisoned by China, who were imprisoned for expressing their opinions on Nation, ethnicity, language, politics, freedom, independence, equality, democracy, a fundamental human rights.

The annual event was successfully held on the terrace of the organisation’s building due to restrictions owing to the Wuhan originated CCP’s COVID-19 pandemic. Representatives from various NGOs based in Dharamshala attended the poetry night event to mark the Day of ‘imprisoned Writers. A variety of poems written by imprisoned Tibetan writers’, original poems by guests, including Tibetan writers in exile were also expressed in different languages. A poetry recitation though video was announced. However due to lack of participant entries, the competition was forfeited. 15 November is annually observed as the Day of the Imprisoned Writer to honour, recognize and support the imprisoned writers who resisted repression of basic human rights, freedom of expression and stood up to attacks made against their right to impart information.
